Website Design Process
"The Process" or better known internally as "The Going Square Way"
Going Square wants to help you and your business create a website that you can not only be proud of as a representative of your business but also actively draw in users and customers.
We have worked for many years in the web design, development and collaboration space and as such we have captured a lot of learning's in working with clients to define a clear and precise process to help you deliver the website you desire. We use this process to deliver our packaged offerings to allows us to work together with clients to quickly define, develop and deploy a customised website with a known set of capabilities and budget on a great platform.
"Our process delivers results" - BUT
Before we talk about process there is a key requirement to ensure the success of any website project and that is identifying a key "Stakeholder". This is a person that is very familiar with the business, the products and services on offer, their customers and the key people within the business.
The Stakeholder will bring essentials skills and knowledge to the table to help develop a successful website, they will have the following attributes:
- Regular contact and validation with the customer
- Already be actively involved with establishing or managing a website or online presence
- Be prepared to own the activities required to deliver a successful website eg. content creations, images, branding development.
- Is fully engaged and prepared to contribute during, answer or follow-up questions during the whole process
- Has the authority to make decisions on behalf of the business and customers
- This may very well be you! If not then this person will need to be identified early on to help drive "The Process".
So what is "The Process"? It is comprised of 8 steps and the sequence is outlined below.
Let's get to know each other first. Going Square need to learn about your business, your culture, your business goals, and your vision so that we can be on the same page.
We will help you set clear goals for the website and capture important information about.
- Who are your customers?
- How do they make decisions about your product or service?
- Do you have an existing website and online presence?
- Who will operate the website?
- What does success look like?
- How do you take the site to market?
We have answered these questions with many people, businesses and organisations in the past. Having a clear understanding of this information on the outset helps set the scene for how to proceed with your website design.
At this stage the client will then need commit to the delivery of the project and make a part payment of the package selected and any additional custom development work required.
2. Requirements Gathering
Now that we have a vision we will then discuss what your specific requirements are. We'll discuss budget, features, content, deadlines, and find examples of sites you like. For this purpose we have developed a Website Planner to help guide you through the process, capture relevant details and decisions made along the way.
The Website Planner has been developed and refined over many customer engagements and will help make the process as simple as possible. It will help to provide structure to the overall process and ensure everything is captured and expectations set. This becomes a valuable baseline for referring to later on and refining once your website has been operational for a while.
3. Plan and Design
Now that we've determined your requirements we can start talking about what is possible within your budget and begin creating concept mock-ups for you to review. We will do a number of revisions to complete the web design until you are satisfied with the results.
Once you approve the final look and feel of the website, we start implementing the final site design, functionally and start populating it with content.
After the website is developed and the content is placed on the website we conduct a comprehensive review of the website for any mistakes and apply corrections and revisions. Once this is completed we ask the client for review and approval of the site.
Deployment is the moment when your website is published online. We like to keep in contact with clients following launch and will continue to work with you to assist in making your website a success.
7. Handover and Support
The great thing about Shopify and Squarespace is how easy it is to manage once the website is in place.
Once we have finalized the website we will walk you through the platform and teach you everything you will need to know to manage the site yourself. If you need additional assistance or design changes we will be more than happy to help.
On completion of this stage final payment for the remainder of the project is invoiced.
8. Monitoring and Management
No website is complete once it has been launched. A truly successful outcome is achieving the goals for the website that were set out. Things to look for include:
- Increased brand awareness and engagement
- A high ranking on Google search
- Increased website traffic and sales conversions
- An effective social media presence
- A larger customer database
You will constantly need to adjust and update your website as your business evolves and you build it up further to attract new business. This will require putting a digital strategy in place. Going Square offer an end to end online presence service and as such we can help you take the next step when you are ready.
